Advantages of Wrought Iron Fences

1)    Durability – Wrought iron fencing is much stronger than wood or vinyl, and hard to break. Because it is difficult to break, it is an excellent choice for security fences and gates. It also means that these fences will last a lot longer than other types of fences. As long as they are painted or sealed properly, they will not corrode.
2)    Visually-appealing – Iron has an elasticity to it that allows it to be molded or “wrought” into different patterns and shapes. It is widely used by sculptures for their art projects.

Disadvantages of Wrought Iron Fences

1)    Expensive – Because it is a sturdy material that is difficult to produce, it is one of the most expensive. If the fence or gate is custom designed, it can also be more expensive to install than traditional vinyl or wood.
2)    Lack of Privacy – Even though wrought iron can be shaped into a variety of designs, you can still see through the open design of the fences. The bars keep people out, but you can still look through them.
3)    Weathering – Over time, a wrought iron fence will corrode, and the rust can be difficult to deal with. Painting or sealing may keep rust from forming, but when constantly exposed to the elements, the paint or sealant will chip. In order to keep the rust at bay, it will need to be repainted every couple of years. Even the best paint for wrought iron fences and gates won’t keep them from rusting if not applied regularly.
